Michio Kaku defines the brain as the most complicated object in the entire universe. This is the exact reason that researches are still going on and scientists are still struggling to come up with new discoveries.

The Recent Discovery Made by Professor Paxinos

A similar kind of research has been done recently. A professor from Australia, after a huge amount of study and a long period of research, have finally come up with a new kind of brain discovery. This professor has discovered a new portion of the brain that he says can be a part of what determines the unique nature of humans. He has shared a number of journals and published a lot of other materials that explains his various researches and theories.

Another well-known brain cartographer is Professor Paxinos, working at the Neuroscience Research Australia (NeuRA), has come up with a new region of the brain that ha named as Endorestiform Nucleus. He has been researching and suspecting this previously hidden area for more than 30 years. It is just because of the staining and the imaging techniques which are the latest ones and has played a huge role in helping come out with this discovery.

The function of the Newly Discovered Region

Though the function of the Endorestiform Nucleus is still not known but is located near the brain and the spinal cord within the inferior cerebellar peduncle. This cerebellar peduncle is an area that combines the sensory and motor information that can help improve our balance, maintain posture and also regulate the motor control process.

This is the reason that Professor Paxinos theorizes that the new region of the brain could play a part in the motor movements of our body and can help to research more about various brain-related diseases such as Parkinson’s and motor neuron disease.

Moreover, it appears that this region Endorestiform Nucleus is unique only to humans.

Is there a final conclusion to the research?

According to Professor Paxinos, it has been found that this region of the brain seems to be absent from other animals such as rhesus monkey. So, Professor Paxinos thinks that apart from the big size of the human brain this region can be another cause for the unique nature of humans which is found missing in other animals.
Professor Paxinos is planning to study a chimpanzee brain to discover whether our closest living relatives have this newly discovered region.
Professor Paxinos has been working on his new book titled “Human Brainstem: Cytoarchitecture, Chemoarchitecture, Myeloarchitecture” where he has given complete details of his recent research on the discovery of Endorestiform Nucleus. This book will be available to order from this month onwards.
